MEGSA is proud to promote sustainable practices across the department. University of California Graduate Student Association (GSA) has recognized MEGSA and its sustainability officer, Faraz Enayati Ahangar, for their efforts with the Sustainability certificate. 

The certificate program encourages mini-GSAs to create carbon-neutral plans for tackling their respective departmental needs and mechanisms for implementing long-term sustainable practices within their learning spaces (more information can be found here).

MEGSA has pioneered sustainable practices within its event spaces. These include: purchasing locally sourced food, using compostable dining supplies for meetings and socials, lending small kitchen appliances for group meetings, supply and promoting sustainable practices in the emails.
